Recently, the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute has successfully tested sea grape growing. Sea grape is a species of plant that not only has high value in export but also has the ability to improve the marine environment.
The trial of sea grape cultivation is implemented in the laboratory with the aim of finding a new seaweed species for fishermen so that they could choose and add to the list of aquaculture. Sea grape has highly nutritious ingredients. It can substitute vegetable sources, and are favored by many countries. After six months of cultivation trial, the result showed that the growth rate of sea grape is satisfactory.
According to the newest survey of Nha Trang Oceanography Institute, most kind of seaweed and sea grass in Vietnam's waters have been severely reduced both in reserve and quality. The cause comes from the destructive exploitation of coastal residents. Along with testing sea grape cultivation, Nha Trang Oceanographic Institute is also conducting a prairie restoration project of 50 ha at waters of Cam Ranh. If the sea prairie or qualified seaweed quality are created, the marine environment in the central region of Vietnam will be improved.
